How do you feel after a full day looking at contemporary art in the galleries? Prolific artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss sum it up for us in their work Sleeping Puppets. They have installations on view in all three Matthew Marks spaces until mid-January. ARTime took a look at them this past week and put together a new PLAN that also includes 2 titans of the past 40 years of art. These are artists that will knock your socks off with their investigations into space, mass and the motion of earth-bound bodies.
Some trial and error went into this week’s PLAN though — Dorothea and I compared notes on the routes we took before ending up in the Fischli and Weiss exhibition. I first went to see their work on 24th street — an installation of everyday objects cast in rubber and other generic items hand-built in clay.
You can see the work here: Matthew Marks Gallery, 523 West 24th Street
I was expecting something less austere, more playful from the artists who created this amazing film:
Dorothea, smartly, started with a duet of shows that focused on the minimal use of materials to create a maximum effect on the space: Dan Flavin at Zwirner Gallery and Richard Serra at Gagosian. She’s authored this week’s PLAN based on this route. Take a look — get the password to the PLAN here.
